2019/20 - Low Emission UK Ambulance
The UK’s National Health Service are looking to upgrade their ambulance fleet to be zero emissions, lightweight and innovative. The current Automotive Engineering MSc students were asked to redesign the ambulance as their Group Design Project. The Automotive Mechatronics students worked on improving patient ride through design of an active suspension and active ride patient table. This then fed into the ambulance designs of two Automotive Engineering groups who included electric powertrain, regenerative braking, weight reduction of 1 tonne and innovation such as rear floor lowering to aid patient loading.
