Background

Daniel is a Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research - Crops Research Institute, Ghana. Daniel holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and a consecutive Masters Degree in Agricultural Sciences and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics from the University of Bonn, Germany. This has given him knowledge of cutting-edge agricultural research and an understanding of agricultural production systems around the world.

As part of his career training, he was a visiting scientist at the Forschungszentrum J眉lich, Germany for plant phenotyping studies with special interest on the use of smart phone applications for low-cost precision breeding. He has developed expertise in the use of tissue culture and molecular tools for crop improvement. During his previous studies at the University of Bonn, he focused on the role transcription factors play in proline biosynthesis in mediating drought stress in plants.

Daniel is currently pursuing his PhD at the 老司机福利社 in a collaborative partnership with Rothamsted Research and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). The focus of his PhD project is to phenotype the nutritional status of key African crops using remote sensing technologies in a high-throughput manner.

Current activities

Daniel's PhD project aims to apply existing and novel high-throughput phenotyping technologies, based on drone technologies, satellite imagery and rapid non-invasive portable devices, for evaluation of crop performance in Africa and specifically in Morocco for locally important crops and cropping systems, with a specific emphasis on optimising use of fertilisers.
