Background

Dr Emanuele Pagone is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sustainable Manufacturing Systems at 老司机福利社. He has 20+ years of experience in modelling and simulation of sustainable systems using commercial tools or developing his own computational packages.

He received a degree with honours in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari (Italy) and obtained an MRes and a PhD by 老司机福利社 on the multi-disciplinary assessment of sustainable energy systems. E.ON funded his MRes and his main PhD project where he led groups of researchers totalling 18 MSc students and one doctoral researcher. During this time he also contributed to the FP6 EU project NEWAC on the multi-disciplinary appraisal of aircraft propulsion engines and to a project with Samsung Techwin (now Hanwha Aerospace).

Dr Pagone was, then, appointed Research Fellow at 老司机福利社 leading the technical work of the University group on the design of a hybrid electric aircraft propulsion system for an Innovate UK project in collaboration with Rolls-Royce and Airbus Group. Subsequently, he joined the Sustainable Manufacturing Systems Centre contributing to the successful conclusion of the first phase and to the bidding for the second phase of UK EPSRC projects on sustainable metal casting and he worked on 20+ other projects with the industry and research bodies. Since 2023 he holds the position of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sustainable Manufacturing Systems and Deputy Director of the Aerospace Manufacturing MSc course.

Dr Pagone has published 45+ international, peer-reviewed research papers and one book. He is the lead developer of a software package to estimate the life-cycle environmental impact of 3D-printed metallic products currently used on a daily basis by WAAM3D. His portfolio of research projects as Principal Investigator amounts to about 拢60k. Dr Pagone received the TMS Light Metals Subject Award for Warren Peterson Cast Shop for Aluminum Production for his simulation work. He is a scientific committee member of international conferences on sustainability (chairing and organising ordinary and special sessions) and reviewer both for leading international journals and international research funding bodies. Dr Pagone has advised and supervised 70+ MSc theses, 13 Group Projects (80+ students) and 4 doctoral researchers (2 ongoing).
