Dr Zhugen Yang, Lecturer in Sensor Technology at 老司机福利社 has been selected as one of six contenders for the 2022 James J. Morgan Early Career Award.

The award recognises the contributions of early-career researchers who, through innovative ideas, are leading the field in new directions.

There was a record number of nominations. 

Dr Zhugen Yang said: “I am so excited to be shortlisted for this prestigious prize and the recognition for our research internationally. It goes not only to me but to my team as well as mentors and collaborators.”

Zhugen added: “I look forward to travelling to San Diego next March for ACS Spring 2022 to present our work on paper-based sensors for wastewater surveillance. It’s also been a great honour to be invited by the most prestigious journal in the field, Environment Science and Technology, to contribute an article.”

Dr Yang is currently heading the Sensors Laboratory at Cranfield Water Science Institute. He is recognised globally for his work in developing a low-cost paper origami device for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases and wastewater-based epidemiology.
